Courses in Traditional Crafts

This fall we will be holding a course in traditional crafts and forestry with two of Norway's foremost course instructors, at Isegran in Fredrikstad.

The instructors; Steinar Moldal and Henning Olstad both have longexperience in Norwegian traditional crafts, and have both published a number of textbooks on log timber construction techniques. Hope Cathedral offers this course for free, using two of Norway’s foremost experts in the field.

The goal of this course is to build the framework of Hope Cathedral, and we invite all to join in!

School visits and Bee Cathedral Workshop

We’ve started production of bee cathedrals again after a good summer break, with visits not least from school classes. Even though winter is coming, we know there’ll be a new spring..

“Gothenburg Book Fair 2019”

We attended the Gothenburg Book Fair this month. The fair is Northern Europe's largest meeting place for the book and library sector. Hope Cathedral was invited to have a photo exhibition about the project at the fair itself. In addition, we were represented in the venerable concert hall during the “Climate Evening”, with a large picture / illustration of Hope Cathedral in the foyer.

Former Bishop of GothenburgPer Eckerdal and his wife visited our exhibition, and we were pleased to present themwith a Bee Cathedral as a gift.

Buddhist Meditation

Welcome to an open Buddhist meditation on the barge on Tuesday, October 8, at 5 pm, led by Buddhist monk Ajahn Kalyano.

Priests at Isegran

Priests from Øvre Romerike visited Isegran, and participated in production of Bee Cathedrals and wooden plugs to the barge.

Flashback!

A visual flashback at Tall Ships Races, Fredrikstad 2019.

Tall Ships was an absolutely amazing experience, with tall masts as far as the eye could see. We had activities for children at Isegran and an open shop in our office space at Phönixbrygga. It was especially great to experience the concert with Cameron Carpenter on the barge, and to join the barge's first trip across Glomma river. We are super happy with the weekend and thanks toeveryone who contributed!

Hope Cathedral is an interfaith and sustainable art project. We’re building a cathedral with a wooden construction inspired by traditional Norwegian stave churches and blocks made out of plastic we have found in the sea. The cathedral becomes proof that we can transform something bad into something good - and is a groundbreaking meeting point between world heritage and modern art, between people across age, nationality and faith. Hope Cathedral will be a place for common effort in a world where we may feel isolated from others.
