NEWSLETTER | December 2019

Here’s wishing you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. In 2019 we’ve sent out a newsletter every month, providing our followers with up-to-date insight into our project. Now we’re taking a well-deserved Christmas break - you’ll hear from us again in the New Year! Best wishes from Siw, Anne, Camilla, Solveig and Andreas.

Cathedral jubilation!

Good news at the end of the year: we’ve received 1.5 million NOK from Sparebankstiftelsen DNB. What a gift! We are incredibly grateful and look forward to starting on the next phase in our building project.

The Hope Cathedral decorated for Christmas! Beautiful in the blue light of dusk!

Volunteers have put in quite a few hours during the year. They’ve helped with everything from cake baking, building and gathering plastic, as well as information and campaign work. Many thanks to the fantastic hope builders that make building our Hope Cathedral possible!

This is just a few of them!

Ibrahim Saidy in Madrid

Inter-religious Climate Network  is one of the Hope Cathedral’s partners. Several representatives of the network are currently taking part in the climate negotiations COP25 in Madrid. One of these participants is the Hope Cathedral ambassador Ibrahim Saidy, who has been spreading the word about the project. A clean ocean in equilibrium is an important aspect of a climate solution, as well as of our common struggle against plastic, says Saidy.

Greetings from Siw Amina

Friday 13th December was my last day in the Cathedral team, and I want to say thank you for the time I’ve been employed on the project. What a journey it’s been! Designing new web pages, with a new logo and profile has been just one of many exciting challenges, not to mention being responsible for these monthly newsletters.

An organist saw people as being organ pipes, and the pipes of Cathedral logo represent all the different people drawn together by the Hope Cathedral. It’s a been a joy to be part of this!

Hearty thanks to everyone!

Hope is a serious business; a driving force and a first step towards change, both on a small and a large scale. It’s hope that lights the spark - and that is what I like particularly about the project.

The Hope Cathedral is an inter-faith and sustainable art project based in Fredrikstad. We are building a 120 m2 barge of wood which will support the Hope Cathedral. The framework is inspired by stave churches, while the 300 m2 roof will be built as an innovative project using plastic from the ocean. The cathedral will be a symbol of hope built through cooperation. The project is under the leadership of Borg Diocese. Both the process and the finished cathedral is open to all.
